The John F. Kennedy International Airport was renamed to that name in honor of the 35th President of the United States after New York International Airport opened in 1948.

The main international airport serving New York City and the broader Tri-State Metropolitan Area, one of the most populated regions in the world and a significant financial hub, is John F. Kennedy International Airport.

One of the busiest airports in the US is JFK. Apart from JetBlue, Virgin America, and regional affiliates of US majors, JFK serves nearly entirely international destinations, with direct flights to several important commercial hubs throughout South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey owns and manages the airport. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is in charge of four airports that serve the New York metropolitan area. The airport, which is situated in the Queens borough, serves as a hub for a number of passenger and freight airlines.

There are 9 gates with covered jet bridges for American Eagle’s regional flights, and there are 27 gates for all kinds of large jets. To enable ongoing airport operations, the terminal was built in three stages. A new two-level roadway with at least 1,200 linear feet (366 metres) of curb space on each level separates arrivals and departures.

Both the 84 check-in locations at the main ticket office and the 12 curbside check-in locations have takeaway belts for luggage. Two check-in islands, one row of counters, and self-ticketing machines make up the arrangement of the 84 interior positions in the ticketing lobby.
